SECTION I - Opening Procedures
Notice of the meeting was given in advance by the publication and/or posting in accordance with the Board approved method for giving notice of meetings. Notice of this meeting was published in the public notices section of the June 14, 2024 edition of The Daily Record and on their website as well as on the district website. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all members of the Board of Education. The Secretary of the Board maintains a list of the news media requesting notification of meetings and advance notification to the listed media of the time and place of the meeting and the subjects to be discussed at this meeting was provided. Availability of the agenda was communicated in the publicized notice and a current copy of the Agenda was maintained as stated in the publicized notice. All proceedings of the Board of Education, except as may be hereinafter noted, were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.
1.1 Call Meeting to Order - Rick Hollendieck called the meeting to order.
1.2 Roll Call - Board members present were: Mark Hauptman, Rick Hollendieck, Kyle Janssen, Greg Beach and Blake Turpen. Board members absent were: Dawn Stock. Others present were: Travis Lightle, Rex Anderson, Andrew Rinaldi, Russ Olsen, Rex Anderson, Shawn Hoppes, Andy Boone, Chanell Willmer, Caroline Foresman, and guests.
1.3 Pledge of Allegiance - The board recited the pledge of allegiance.
1.4 Approval of Minutes - Motion by Blake Turpen, seconded by Kyle Janssen, to approve the minutes of June 10, 2024. A roll call vote was taken - Blake Turpen, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; and Dawn Stock, absent. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
1.5 Recognition of Visitors - none.
SECTION II - Matters Requiring Board Action
2.1 Consider Second Round Approval of Handbooks for the 24-25 School Year - Motion by Mark Hauptman, seconded by Greg Beach for second round approval of the 2024-2025 handbooks. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Dawn Stock, absent; and Greg Beach, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
2.2 Discuss, Consider and Take All Necessary Action with Regard to Possible Approval and Authorization to Pursue Litigation Regarding Social Media and Engaging Litigation Attorneys - Motion by Blake Turpen, seconded by Kyle Janssen, that the Board of Education of this School District approves participation in social media company litigation and further approves and adopts the attached resolution. A roll call vote was taken - Dawn Stock, absent; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; and Rick Hollendieck, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
SECTION III – Reports
3.1 Construction Report - Mike Kros from DLR and Jack Nelson from MCL Construction
presented a report on the updates with construction.
3.2 Combine Budget Report - Russ Olsen presented the last report on the combined budget.
3.3 Executive Session - For the Protection of Public Interest - To Discuss Negotiation of Real Estate - Motion by Greg Beach, seconded by Dawn Stock to enter into executive session to review possible land sales and update on purchases. A roll call vote was taken - Dawn Stock, absent; Kyle Janssen, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; and Blake Turpen, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

Motion by Blake Turpen, seconded by Kyle Janssen to exit executive session. A roll call vote was taken - Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Dawn Stock, absent; Greg Beach, yes; and Mark Hauptman, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

3.4 Potential Executive Session for Superintendent Evaluation - This session is only to be utilized if comments/questions are necessary that could hurt the reputation of the superintendent.
3.5 Superintendent Evaluation - This is the second evaluation of Superintendent Travis Lightle of the first year as interim superintendent.
SECTION IV - Announcements and Dates
4.1 Set Next Board Meeting Date - The next school board meeting will be held on Monday, July 8th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administrative Offices.
4.2 Adjournment - Motion by Greg Beach, seconded by Mark Hauptman, to adjourn the meeting. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Dawn Stock, absent; and Greg Beach, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

BE IT RESOLVED that Sarpy County School District No. 77-0037, a/k/a Gretna Public Schools, a Class III School District under the laws and statutes of the State of Nebraska, at this regular meeting of its Board of Education, (“GPS”), hereby approves and authorizes participation in pursuing claims for damages associated with litigation involving social media companies to include as appropriate the filing of and/or participation in such lawsuit or lawsuits, to engage the Frantz Law Group, APLC, to act as legal counsel for GPS in such litigation, to approve and authorize the Board President, Superintendent of Schools, or designee of either, to negotiate, sign, execute and deliver an attorney-client fee contract with the Frantz Law Group, APLC for such litigation, and to take or cause to be taken any and all other action and sign any other documents as may be necessary to complete the matter and to join in or file suits as contemplated thereby and determined appropriate, for and on behalf of GPS, and further hereby delegates authority to and designates the Board President, Superintendent or another person from time to time to administer GPS’ involvement with regard to such lawsuit and resolution of same.
These minutes remain unofficial until officially ratified and signed by the Board of Education Secretary.
