When COVID-19 hit, it made sense and it was necessary, to identify a way to feed kids in need that didn’t require person-to-person interaction. The federally funded Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) was born from that era. It has now morphed into the Summer EBT program – one that front loads money onto cards for the purchase of $40 of groceries per child per month, capping at $120 per recipient.

As we start a new year there are some things that Nebraskans can always count on. The Sandhill Cranes will return to the Platte River Valley, the Husker faithful will swear that this is the year we win the National Championship and the Governor and State Senators will try to do something to lower property taxes.

At the outset of this election year, with Donald Trump leading the race to be the Republican presidential nominee, Americans should pause to consider what a second Trump term would mean for our country and the world and to weigh the serious responsibility this election places on their shoulders.

If you walked through the squad areas of our FBI Omaha field office, you would see desks laden with computers, evidence reports, surveillance photographs, policy manuals, tactical gear and family photos. However, you might be hard-pressed to know if the desk belonged to an FBI agent, police officer, sheriff’s deputy or state trooper.

I have a neighbor who over a year ago received a call from the FBI, seeking her assistance in targeting a group of individuals who were performing illegal wire transfers. Over the year she had assisted with other tasks and had become a trusted ally of the FBI. Then recently, the FBI asked her to increase her involvement after having gained the trust of the illegally operating group. They told her they had set a trap to finally catch these guys and that they would keep her updated on their every move. They thanked

School district leaders had long been attuned to the ebb and flow of politics, having to navigate the sometimes rough waters of discourse until leaders on both sides of an issue could find common ground for the sake of their students.
