Teens with domineering friends are at heightened risk for mental health problems, according to our new research.
Dominant friends often harness decision-making power – for instance, dictating which classmates their friends should follow on Instagram. They can also exert behavioral control, like by making the subordinate friend go to a party they don’t want to attend.

It is counter-intuitive that taking a break increases productivity, but rest is very important to productivity. We all have busy lives, often we push off rest and relaxation. However, many great thinkers throughout history have emphasized the importance of rest. Their words on the subject can inspire us to take rest more seriously.

Nebraska has seen an alarming increase in the number of young people who use e-cigarettes.
From 2015 to 2021, rates of e-cigarette use by high school-aged people rose from 9% to 14%, and those who have tried an e-cigarette for the first time increased from 19% to 30%, according to the Nebraska Youth Tobacco Survey.

Sen. Steve Erdman of Bayard appears willing to upend Nebraska’s Legislature in an attempt to preserve outsized rural representation against the reality that half of the state’s population now resides in Lancaster, Douglas and Sarpy counties.
His proposal, contained in LR2CA, would replace the state’s one-house Legislature with two houses.

Four years ago this month, our home of Nebraska experienced a uniquely challenging natural disaster. A severe winter storm, a bomb cyclone, caused historic levels of flooding from Nebraska rivers, resulting in the tragic loss of life as well as destruction to homes, businesses, infrastructure, and farmland.

One of government’s primary responsibilities is to keep people safe. Elected officials make laws that keep the peace and protect us from violent criminals. It’s an idea that seems like common sense to an overwhelming majority of us. Yet in recent years, loud voices on the far-left crying “Defund the Police” have pushed policies threatening that most basic role of government.

The University of Nebraska is asking the Legislature for a 3% increase in state appropriations in each of the next two years.
Gov. Jim Pilllen, who was a member of the NU Board of Regents when it approved the 3% increase proposal, has included a 2% increase in his budget proposal, an amount reflected in the Appropriations Committee’s initial budget.
